Eric Gerdau

Eric Gerdau is a painter and multidisciplinary artist whose work spans painting, performance, photography, and installation. He earned a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), was selected for study in Rome through the European Honors Program, and received the Guggenheim Award for Painting.

His artistic foundation was shaped in New York City, where he worked as a studio assistant in SoHo during high school and college. After RISD, he established his studio on the Bowery, exhibiting in the dynamic post-9/11 arts scene. Years living and working across Europe and Asia expanded his practice, including collaborations with a contemporary dance company in Lisbon that culminated in installations at Centro Cultural de Belém. Residencies in China immersed him in the contemporary art scene while he studied traditional calligraphy.

Now based in Southern California, Gerdau maintains a studio gallery in Laguna Beach. His Horizons oil painting series presents quiet vistas that explore perception, time, and reflection—capturing not a place, but a state of being. Critical acclaim has likened his work to a contemporary evolution of the California Impressionists. His work is exhibited internationally in galleries, museums, site-specific projects, and is collected by institutions like the Guggenheim Foundation and the Disney Group and private collectors worldwide.
